Changelog
v2.0
Description: Calento 2.0 is a major update focused on getting you into your next meeting faster and making your day feel clear from the menu bar. The app has a redesigned schedule, smarter meeting actions, more useful full-screen alerts, new alert settings, and a lot of reliability work underneath.
Coming soon
This release changes the feeling of Calento quite a bit. It is still small, fast, and privacy-friendly, but now the important thing is always closer: your next event, the right meeting button, and a clear reminder when it is time to go.
Free For Everyone
- Calento is free from July 31 — every feature is available without a subscription or paywall.
- New in 2.0: Optional support tiers — Supporter, Champion, and Patron are one-time purchases that add a cosmetic badge and tier-specific thank-you message without unlocking features.
- New in 2.0: Founding Supporters — people who bought Calento before it became free are recognized automatically.
- New: Settings → About — support status, Restore Purchases, privacy information, and contact links are now easy to find.
Next Meeting, Front And Center
- New: Next Meeting hero — the top of the menu bar popover now focuses on your next event, with a larger title, timing, calendar color, and the action you are most likely to need.
- New: Join Meeting action — when Calento finds a meeting link, the primary button takes you straight into the call.
- New: Open Event fallback — events without a meeting link still get a useful primary action, so the top area never feels empty or confused.
- New: Copy Link — quickly copy a detected meeting link from the hero, ongoing events, or event rows.
- Improvement: Live timing — next-event timing updates more reliably while the popover is open, including near-start states like “Starting now”.
Redesigned Schedule
- Redesign: Cleaner event list — events now use a calmer command-style layout that is easier to scan during the day.
- New: Hover actions — Join, Copy, and Open actions appear directly on event rows when they are useful.
- Improvement: Better grouping — Ongoing, Today, Tomorrow, Later, and all-day events are organized with clearer visual hierarchy.
- Improvement: Ongoing events feel active — events happening right now are easier to notice without making the whole popover noisy.
- Improvement: Calendar colors — calendar accents are more consistent across the hero, ongoing cards, and event rows.
- Improvement: Empty states — quiet days now feel more intentional with simpler copy like “No events left” and “You’re clear for now.”
Full-Screen Alerts 2.0
- New: Alerts for every event by default — full-screen alerts are no longer only about detected meeting links. Calento can remind you about regular calendar events too.
- New: Meeting-aware alerts — if the event has a meeting link, the alert shows a clear Join Meeting button.
- New: Open Event from alerts — every alert can open the calendar event, even when there is no meeting link.
- New: Remind Me — snooze an alert for later when you need a little more time. Options include 1, 5, 10, and 15 minutes.
- New: Keyboard shortcuts — Return activates the main alert action, and Escape dismisses the alert.
- Improvement: Better alert behavior after sleep or lock — Calento avoids showing stale alerts at awkward times and reduces duplicate reminders.
- Improvement: Softer motion — alert transitions are smoother and respect Reduce Motion.
Alert Settings
- New: Choose what gets full-screen alerts — alert for every event, only meeting events, or turn full-screen alerts off.
- New: Alert timing — choose whether alerts appear at the event start, 1 minute before, or 5 minutes before.
- Improvement: Simpler settings — the settings screen explains the alert behavior more clearly without turning Calento into a maze of preferences.
Meeting Links
- Improvement: More reliable meeting detection — Calento is better at finding meeting links in event notes, locations, and event URLs.
- Improvement: Better service priority — when an event contains more than one link, Calento chooses the meeting link more consistently.
- Improvement: Outlook Safe Links cleanup — wrapped Microsoft Safe Links are cleaned up so the real meeting URL can be used.
- Fix: Safer link handling — malformed or unusual calendar data should no longer cause crashes while Calento is looking for meeting links.
Keyboard And Accessibility
- New: Keyboard navigation in the popover — move through events with Up and Down, open with Return, join with J, and copy meeting links with C.
- Improvement: Better button labels and focus behavior — meeting and alert actions are easier to reach with keyboard and accessibility tools.
- Improvement: Accessibility preferences — Calento better respects Reduce Motion, Reduce Transparency, and Differentiate Without Color.
Onboarding, About, And Polish
- Improvement: Refreshed onboarding — the first-run flow now explains Calento’s purpose more clearly: faster meeting joins, visible day, and full-screen alerts.
- Privacy: Clearer calendar explanation — Calento makes it clearer that your calendar data stays on this Mac.
- Improvement: Updated About window — the About screen has cleaner copy and quick links for the website, changelog, legal pages, and contact.
- Improvement: Dynamic menu bar date icon — the date icon remains stable and has been tightened up for this release.
- Polish: Copy confirmations — copying a meeting link now gives a small confirmation so you know it worked.
Reliability And Fixes
- Improvement: More reliable event alerts — Calento now schedules alerts more intentionally instead of constantly checking in the background.
- Improvement: Fewer duplicate alerts — dismissed events should stay dismissed for the current occurrence, while snoozed events can return at the right time.
- Improvement: Better refresh behavior — Calento reacts more cleanly to calendar changes, wake, unlock, calendar selection changes, and scheduled refreshes.
- Fix: Past and all-day event handling — schedule grouping and visibility rules are more predictable.
- Fix: Timing messages — event timing text is more consistent around starts, endings, and very-near upcoming events.
- Fix: General stability cleanup — many internal pieces were rebuilt and tested so the app feels smoother in everyday use.
Privacy
- Privacy: Still local-first — Calento reads your calendars on your Mac and does not add analytics, tracking, telemetry, or calendar sync.
- Privacy: Meeting links are used for actions — detected links are only used to show useful buttons like Join Meeting and Copy Link.
